Our Beliefs

There is the old story about a man who was asked what he believed. He replied, he believed what his church believed. The questioner then asked him what his church believed. To this the man replied, his church believed what he believed.

The circular logic of this man leaves both us and the questioner completely baffled as to what he does believe. Below is a brief summary, so that you can know…

                 What We Lutherans Believe:

1.  We believe In the Triune God: Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

       (Matthew 28:19)

2.  We believe God, by His power and word, created heaven,

earth and all things. (Genesis 1 & 2)

3.  We believe mankind was originally created without sin.

       (Genesis 1:26-27)

4.  We believe that in his free will, mankind fell into sin, lost the

perfect relationship with God and caused sin to enter the

       whole world.

       (Genesis 3 / Romans 5:12, 18)

5.  We believe Jesus Christ is the only begotten Son of God,

who became true man as well as being true God; who was

born without sin of the virgin Mary. (John 1:1,14 / Luke 2)

6.  We believe Jesus Christ is our Savior and Lord; who has

redeemed us by fulfilling the Law and suffering, dying and

       rising from the dead.

       (Galatians 4:4-5 / II Corinthians 5:18-19)

7.  We believe the Holy Spirit is also God, with the Father and

       the Son. (Matthew 28:19)

8.  We believe it is by God's grace, God's undeserved love,

that we are saved, through faith; and it is a gift of God.

       (Ephesians 2:8-9 / I Corinthians 12:3)

9.  We believe our good works, our “Thank you life lived in love”

        is the result of the faith produced in us by the Holy Spirit;

but are not saved by our good works.

       (Ephesians 2:8-9 / Titus 3:5)

10. We believe the Bible is the inspired word of God. And we

believe the Bible is the only source of all doctrine and

belief and the only rule and guide by which we must live.

        (II Peter 1:2 / II Timothy 3:16-17)

11. We believe Baptism, one of two sacraments, along with the

Word of God is a means of grace. The union of water and

the Word brings the blessings of God’s forgiveness of sin

to all, including infants. (Matthew 28:19 / Acts 2:38-39)

12. We believe the Lord's Supper is also a sacrament. That in,

with and under the presence of the bread and wine, is the

true body and blood of Jesus; which along with the Word

brings the blessing of forgiveness of sins.

        (Matthew 26:26, 28 / II Corinthians 11:24-25)

This is but a brief outline of the basic doctrine of the Christian Lutheran faith as revealed in the Bible and supported in the Confessions of the Lutheran Church.
